Don’t fall in love with a poet –
he’ll lead you astray that’s for sure;
his inspiring mind may be …
all that you find,
though his words will imply so much more.

Don’t fall in love with a poet,
she’ll give you her passion … in print.
She’ll make it all sound
absolutely profound,
though to you it may seem … more succinct.

Don’t fall in love with a poet,
they’re all on the edge of despair;
the angst in their verse will only get worse
with the trauma of love to declare.

Don’t fall in love with a poet –
you’ll find yourself lost for words.
Your every emotion will feed their devotion
to adjectives, adverbs, and verbs.

Don’t fall in love with a poet,
or if you do, stop first and think –
do you want to spend ages
reading her pages
before you can dip
your pen
in her ink.
